♠️ 11 Trump Cards to Deal in Business and Life - Issue #8
In his 1987 national bestseller book, "The Art of the Deal", Donald Trump revealed 11 of his cards that he used when deal-making. These cards were presented as common elements of a deal which he noticed from the ones he won and the ones he lost.
According to Trump, these elements are more useful for people who have (1) instincts, (2) courage and (3) good fortune to discover their potential. Here are these 11 cards:
1. Think Big
One of the keys to thinking big is total focus. That way all your energies will be channeled into your work.
Being single-minded is a great way to get what you want in life.
2. Protect the downside and the upside will take care of itself
Although believing in the power of positive thinking is ideal to success, that doesn’t mean to leave your base uncovered.
3. Maximize your options
Once you made a deal, try to come up with multiple approaches (so you would have an option to be flexible) that would make it work since anything can happen even to the best-laid plans.
4. Know your market
If you have a sense of the market, do your own surveys and draw your own conclusions.
But before you make a decision ask everyone for an opinion until you begin to get a gut feeling.
5. Use your leverage
When making a deal, use your imagination and salesmanship to convince the other guy that it’s in his interest to make the deal. This is leverage - having something the other guy wants or better yet, needs or best of all simply can’t do without.
6. Enhance your location
In real estate, there is a common myth that location is key to success. But the key to your success really is the deal itself. Because just as you can create leverage; you can enhance a location, through promotion and psychology.
Do you have the best deal?
7. Get the word out
You can have the most wonderful product in the world, but if people don’t know about it, it’s not going to be worth much. In order to avoid this,
You can hire public relations people and pay them a lot to sell whatever you’ve got. Or
If you are a little different, or if you do things that are bold or controversial, the press is going to write about it, and people will know about you.
From a pure business point of view, the benefits of being written about especially by a media that has a good reputation is a trust assured promotion that will cost you nothing.
8. Fight back
There are some people, who get their sense of accomplishment and achievement from trying to stop others. If they had any ability they wouldn’t fight you in the first place, as they’d be doing something constructive themselves.
So, if your only choice is confrontation, stand by what you believe in and fight, even that means alienating some people along the way. Things usually workout for the best in the end.
9. Deliver the goods
You can create excitement, you can do wonderful promotion and get all kinds of press and you can throw a little hyperbole, but if you don’t deliver the goods, people will eventually catch on. Hence, DELIVER THE GOOD.
10. Contain the costs
Dream great dreams. Then, turn them into reality by spending what you have to while being attentive of the costs including that of smaller ones so as not to spend more than you should.
11. Have fun
Success doesn’t change the essence of life. So, do not take any of your achievements too seriously. Also, don’t spend a lot of time worrying about (1) what you should have done differently or (2) what’s going to happen next. Instead, ENJOY THE EXCITEMENT OF PLAYING THE GAME NOW.
